Fearless – Support for young refugees

Since 2020, vivo international e.V., in cooperation with the University of Konstanz and the psychotherapy training institutes in Baden-Württemberg, has been addressing the mental health of young refugees who are seeking protection and asylum in Baden-Württemberg without parents or care. On the one hand, many of these young people have been victims of multiple and massive traumatisation, but on the other hand, they sometimes also were involved violent acts and are aggressive. These conditions block the potential of the youths and young adults. In the “Fearless” project, a step-by-step approach is implemented. From a short, low-threshold screening on site – in order to first recognise vulnerable refugees and their need for treatment – to full-scale psychotherapy. At each stage, the project trains the relevant actors (interpreters, trainee psychotherapists, supervisors, peer support, refugee workers, etc.) and accompanies/advises them in their work. The structure-building and training project is funded by the Baden-Württemberg Foundation and scientifically evaluated for its feasibility.
