vivo starts in the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire

In 2015 vivo international started working in Côte d’Ivoire. After years of heavy political crisis most people in the country enjoy once more a relatively calm life. But – as in so many countries around the globe – sexual violence against children and women continues to be rampant. The NGO SOS Violence Sexuelle supports victims of this violence in one of Abidjan’s most diadvantaged districts. vivo international has greatly enhanced the expertise of SOS’s highly motivated employees by conducting a training for several weeks.

Cotedivoire1.2

The participants of the training acquired basic skills in accompanying victims of sexual violence, learned how to identify trauma-related disorders and practiced extensively how to react to them. For all participants the many demonstrations and role plays, conducted in different languages spoken in Côte d’Ivoire, presented a new and very enriching experience. To the whole team it was also of immense importance to realise, that not only SOS psychologist, but everyone in the NGO, has a crucial role to play while accompanying survivors of sexual violence. The group learned that lay personnel can equally care for survivors. Thus vivo international could not only greatly enhance the participants’ skills, but most importantly contributed to lasting team-building for the NGO. vivo’s pychologist in Côte d’Ivoire will continue to support SOS with supervision and ensure the sustainability of the new partnership.
