Understanding and Overcoming Conflicts

In August, the vivo counselling team in Gulu, Uganda participated in a two-day training course facilitated by Wibke Angelike, a trainer and mediator of non-violent conflict resolution working for the German Civil Peace Service in cooperation with the Justice and Peace Department of the Gulu Archdiocese.

The training reviewed different ways of communicating, both in theory and through various exercises suggested by the trainer. The team also analysed the different moments of intervention during a conflict as mediators, as well as the different types of negotiation (e.g., accommodation, compromise, collaboration, etc.).

They were able to apply what they had learned through concrete case studies proposed by the trainer. As well as being educational, it also enabled the team to have a good time together and to leave even more united than before.
