vivo project is 2nd in the category ‘civil society’!
On May 8, 2025, the German State of Baden-Württemberg granted its Integrations Awards, first time since 2019. The vivo project ‘Psychotherapy for refugees- coordinated psychotherapeutic care with the assistance of peer support workers (COPEER)’ achieved the second position in the category ‘civil society’. Since 2017, the project is jointly implemented with the University of Konstanz and is financed by grants from local authorities and the EU’s Asylum Migration and Integration Fonds. The project developed and evaluated an approach that overcomes barriers to the standard health care system for refugees with mental disorders on a county level. One of the two central aspects of the approach is to employ co-refugees as peer social workers that guide, accompany and motivate the patients on their way through the health care system; the second column is the central coordination office that steers the patient and peer duos through the complex range of services and actively refers them to the adequate care providers. At the same time, the coordination office supports and trains service providers.
